The San Diego Border Patrol Sector covers three counties.
The largest is San Diego County and includes stations in Imperial Beach, Chula Vista, Brown Field, El Cajon, Campo, Boulevard. Because locations like Campo and Boulevard are remote, there are van pools offered so you can still enjoy living in San Diego and not spending your entire paycheck on gas. San Clemente is on the border of Orange County although most agents choose to live in Oceanside and surrounding communities because they are more affordable.
Imperial County also houses several station El Centro, Calexico, Indio, while relatively an inexpensive are to live many people decide this are is too remote and the weather too extreme and decide to live in San Diego county and commute until they are lucky enough to get transferred to a San Diego County station. Alpine is very popular amongst Border Patrol agents just for this reason. It is joking referred to as the last outpost of civilization. The commute is without traffic although there is significant elevation change.
Riverside County has a station in Temecula. During the housing boom Temecula grew and grew providing a great community at affordable prices. It is generally newer and has plenty of shopping and large houses still at significantly lower prices than San Diego.
